- This module describes British self-confidence and naval supremacy in the mid 19th century - and how British pride was punctured by news if the Indian Mutiny of 1857. The module explores the origins of the mutiny, and explains how the East India Company was replaced with direct British Rule - the Raj.

Location details
HMS Warrior can be visited in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard, and it's well worth a visit. The pride of Queen Victoria's navy, Warrior was the largest, fastest and most powerful ship of the day, and she's simply breathtaking - Pax Britannica at its zenith.
The second half of the module was filmed in Osborne House, Victoria's favourite residence, located on the northern tip of the Isle of Wight - from where the queen would have been able to survey her fleet at anchor.
The house is a bit gaudy for my tastes, but the Durbar Room is astounding.
